The Dirty Denims | Entrevista para México

The Dirty Denims.

  1. ¿Piensas venir a México?

IN ENGLISH

It’s literally dirty denim, it’s rock straight out of the past, caught up in it and wrapped in nostalgia, the first thing you hear in the notes of Dirty Denim is the feeling that you know that sound, that you’ve heard it somewhere before, that maybe They could have been part of the soundtrack of your life, but you can’t place it one hundred percent
With riffs inspired by The Ramones and AC/DC, a Joan Jett-like punkrock, this sound is very likely to catch your eye.
On this occasion we had the opportunity to talk with Mirjam Sieben, who is the vocalist of the band to ask them how they themselves perceive their sound?

  1. What’s your thrill, what makes you be you?
There are a few things that make me really excited. To begin with: playing live with our Hard Rock band The Dirty Denims to have real life connection with people who like our music, and to give them a nice time. And I’m passionate about other ‘behind the scenes’ things too, for example when we confirm a new gig or when a promotion campaign is working great. It’s all about connection with likeminded people and everything that’s helping with that I like a lot.2. Loud, Fast and Dirty, is that how you define your sound?
Fast not always, because it’s Hard Rock and some songs have a lower pace, but yeah, most songs are quite energetic, raw and need high volumes and high voltage! We play a mix of Hard Rock, Power Pop and Punk Rock, we call it Happy Hardrock. It’s AC/DC meets Joan Jett meets KISS. So a lot of classic rock influences but with a (not too big) modern and happy spin on it.3. You sound powerful, like always in a hurry. Do you also have some relaxed ballad or it has to be always on the edge?
Haha, you sound like my dad! He is always asking for a ballad. But we really like the energetic and positive vibes and we don’t feel for a lot of ballads. We have an acoustic ‘Hangover’ version of Last Call For Alcohol though, you can hear it on digital streaming services. And Jeroen has some ideas of a funny ballad, not sure yet if he will write that in the future of not.

    4. Why did you wanted to release a live album?
Some fans were asking for a live album for a while now. In 2020 we released our previous studio album Ready, Steady, Go!. That was our 3rd full album and we’ve released 2 Eps before that, so that’s quite a big discography already. We thought it would be a great idea to make it sort of a ‘best of’ but then played live in a studio setting to get that raw live energy. And that turned out to be the new Raw Denim album that’s out now, with 15 songs (the vinyl, not released yet, will contain a bonus song) and it’s a mix of songs from all previous releases. The live favorites and songs we wanted to give another chance in a ‘better’ recording. It’s recorded without audience, of course also because of the lockdowns etc, but also to have more opportunities technically. We wanted to play the songs only once. Only a few of them we played a 2nd time, that afternoon in July.

    5. What have you be doing during the pandemic? Are you recording or performing online?
In 2020 we didn’t have a lot of ‘real live shows’, just like other bands, but still did some shows whenever it was possible, even when there were only 20 people allowed. We played 8 ‘offline’ gigs with audience. But indeed we did some recordings for (split) singles, and we did also a few live streams. I particularly likes the live streams with a big screen we could read the comments on, so we still felt there was an audience. In 2020 we also released our album Ready, Steady, Go!

In 2021 we played 21 live shows! Still not the ‘normal amount’ of 40-45 a year, but we are happy to play every gig we can. 6 shows of them were gigs during our very first official tour, in Spain. It was in November and it was amazing! And we keep ourselves busy with content for our members. We also did some Zoom meetings with them. And we ended 2021 with the release of the live album Raw Denim and the promotion for that.

    6. Do you think rock is dead?
Not in our and our fans hearts! There are a lot of great scenes and communities out there who love to spread the rocking word. Unfortunately the mean population on this earth is not into real raw rock anymore. That’s why we like it even more to help continue the classic rock sound. The pandemic isn’t helping a lot though… I hope all bands will keep being motivated and try everything that’s possible to continue!

    7. Are you planning to come to Mexico? Have you thought of doing some material in Spanish?
We don’t have specific plans yet, but it would be so amazing! First we like to play the more closeby countries, there is still a lot in Europe we haven’t played yet. But when the opportunity is there, we would really love it, we hear a lot of great things about Mexico and it’s music lovers. For our Spain tour we shortly were thinking of a Spanish song but that’s really difficult for me, my Spanish is not that good. A little bit better then before our Spain tour, but I think I just have to practise more by planning more tours in Spanish countries and then it will happen automatically, haha!
